Sharepoint Development

Wow!!

I attended an overview session at Microsoft today (not Redmond unfortunately, only Reading – is there something about the Rs).

Anyway the aim of the day was to demonstrate to developers in the academia market why they should be developing applications that can be integrated into Sharepoint.

I got a load out of the day and am currently brimming with ideas, which I am sure will take a few days to simmer down to more tangible projects that I can implement on on our intranet or our development environment.

In no particular order:

  • Creating Office 2007 documents on the fly, on the server. see this link
  • Developing content controls linked to xml nodes in word using the Content Control Toolkit
  • Using BDC to extract data (in theory even easier with this tool)
  • Infopath forms
  • Excel Services
